Monster Hunter Outlanders Adventurers Tier List: Best Characters

Monster Hunter Outlanders has a roster of 13 playable adventurers that belong to different classes, elements, and weapon types. This Monster Hunter Outlanders tier list ranks every available adventurer based on their damage, how easy they are to play, and how flexible they are in different team comps.
Note: This list is based on closed beta (CBT3) information and we will update this guide after the game launches.
Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List

| Tier | Adventurers |
|---|---|
| S+ | Fated Adventurer, Luka |
| S | Luxheart, Madelyn |
| A | Midori, Pyro, Ouyang Varen, Pepper |
| B | Arkaya, Keres, Ryunosuke, Raya |
| Not rated | Rhodes, Haze |
| Upcoming | Freya |
Some adventurers move up in the right team. Ryunosuke and Raya are closer to A in a fire party, and Arkaya moves up to A once you have one duplicate.
Best Adventurers in Monster Hunter Outlanders
If I consider raw damage, Luka and Fated Adventurer are the best adventurers in the game. Freya is close to both of them in terms of damage; however, at the game’s launch, she won’t be available.
The Fated Adventurer is the only one who can use every available weapon and element in the game. This makes him flexible in every mode and hunt. However, if the monster is weak to the Thunder element, Luka outdamages The Fated Adventurer as well.
When it comes to SR adventurers, Luxheart and Madelyn are the best picks. They fit into almost every team, and you do not need to spend a single pull on them.
S+ Tier
Fated Adventurer
The Fated Adventurer is the main character you get at the start of the game, and the only adventurer who can use every weapon and every element with no damage penalty. That flexibility is the reason I rank this character at the very top.
Also, not every weapon on Fated Adventurer is the same. From my understanding of CBT3, the Heavy Bowgun is the best weapon for the Fated Adventurer. If you want to invest in one character that can carry you through most of the available content, Fated Adventurer is a go-to pick!
Luka
Luka is a free Assault adventurer who uses a bow as a weapon type and specialises in the Thunder element. Apart from his relevance in the meta, he is also one of the most fun characters to play. In terms of damage potential, he is on par with the Fated Adventurer. Another reason I ranked him here is that you can get him for free through the event, so if you pull a second one from the banner, you will easily be able to build his insights.
S Tier
Luxheart
Luxheart is a free adventurer in Monster Hunter Outlanders who uses a Great Sword and specialises in the Thunder element. He does not deal much damage himself; however, his kit brings great value to the team. Pair him with Luka, and the two of them also share the Thunder element.
Madelyn
Madelyn is a free SR support. Her ultimate heals the party and gives a damage buff, and it works on any team, so she never feels like a wasted slot. She is better than Arkaya until Arkaya gets a duplicate. In the beta, I got her within the first 2 to 3 hours of play by finishing the Toxic Mist Swamp quest.
A Tier
Midori
Midori is an Assault adventurer with a fire Long Sword, and she is the first limited banner character. On monsters weak to fire, she can out-damage the Fated Adventurer. On everything else, she cannot perform even half as well.
Don’t get me wrong, though. She is a really fun character to play and has good potential; however she takes both time and investment of resources. Pull for her if you like the style, but you can clear content without her.
Pyro
Pyro is a free Assault adventurer who uses a Great Sword and specialises in the Dragon element. His charge attack has super armor, and he hits harder if you take a hit while charging it.
His damage is lower than that of the other SSR adventurers. You get him for free by spending 450 Chronicle Coins in the Brave Adventure Chronicles shop.
Ouyang Varen
Varen is a free SR Assault adventure. His ultimate sends him in front of you to block an incoming attack, and a successful block guarantees a stagger on the counter. He starts every fight with all three charges.
That makes him the safest pick on the list. His damage is the lowest of the Assault adventurers, so a stronger damage dealer like Pyro or Midori can replace him. In the beta, I got him around level 12, which was about 3 to 4 hours in, from the Adventurers Assemble quest.
Pepper
Pepper is a Disruptor who uses a Heavy Bowgun and fights from the air. She was the strongest adventurer in CBT2, but then got nerfed, so her personal damage is low now. I would bring her as a party member and not play her as your main. She is a good fit next to Madelyn in a water party.
B Tier
Arkaya
Arkaya is the only SSR support. He is a dragon Lance user who gives the party an affinity buff and a shield. His own damage is low.
Without a duplicate, his buff is weaker than Madelyn’s, so I would skip him for the first stretch of the game. With one duplicate he adds 12% skill damage and becomes a better support than Madelyn, which moves him up to A.
Keres
Keres is an SSR Disruptor who uses Dual Blades. Her debuff makes monsters take more dragon damage, so she only helps in fights where you bring dragon damage. Her personal damage is also low for an SSR. She is fun to play, but easy to leave out of your team.
Ryunosuke
Ryunosuke is a free SR support whose buff only boosts fire damage, and his ultimate also cleanses. In a fire party he is strong. In any other party he is easy to replace, because Madelyn and Arkaya work with every element.
Raya
Raya is a free SR Disruptor who uses Dual Blades. Her ultimate sets pitfall traps and raises the fire damage monsters take. The traps do not work on every monster, and they never work on elder dragons.
She is best in a fire party, especially with Midori. You get her from the pre-registration reward in your in-game mail.
Not Rated
Rhodes
Rhodes is an SSR Hammer adventurer on the Rotating Recruitment banner at launch. He was not in CBT3, so I do not have enough information to rate him yet.
Haze
Haze is an SSR adventurer. She was also not in CBT3, so she remains unrated for now.
